Following up with our update for subclass 186 (TRT) on 19 Mar 2022, the government has introduced a new legislation that allows some people who are over 45 years old to apply for subclass 186 (transition stream from 482 or 457). This is a government's response to the current labour shortage and an incentive rewarded to the skilled workers who chose to stay in Australia during the Pandemic.
In fact, this class of persons will be exempted from the age requirement when applying for subclass 186 (TRT stream).
This new class of persons is called legacy 457 worker:
Those who held subclass 457 on or after 18 Apr 2017, and
were in Australia for at least 12 months between 01 Feb 2020 to 14 Dec 2021
This new legislation will commence from 01 July 2022.
